The Inventor Of Basketball
The sport of basketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith way back in 1891. Naismith was a Canadian born professor teaching at Springfield YMCA when he devised the game “Basket Ball” to keep his track athletes in shape. By 1892, the new sport had become so popular on campus that a local newspaper published an article about it. By 1898, the sport of basketball officially had a men’s basketball program at the University of Kansas. While basketball was extremely popular at colleges, the NBA League didn’t come about until 1946.
The NBA has acknowledged and honored Naismith by calling the basketball Hall of Fame the “Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame” that is located in Springfield, Massachusetts, and Naismith was inducted in 1959. As a last little bit of information, when James invented the sport their were originally 13 rules. These official rules can be viewed by visiting this link here.
